Master mode and the riff repeater can help with this step, but I usually just turn to the side so I'm not looking at my screen, and can glance over when I get lost. My brain memorizes phrases I play often, so if I have a song I'm trying to master-and it's therefore in my rotation of songs I attempt to play every single day-then usually by the time I 100% the song, it only takes a little more effort to actually fully memorize it. And that learning to react to visual stimuli is actually a useful skill because you're translating visual notation into notes and rhythm, and you can apply that back to sheet music or tab. My opinion differs from a lot of people's on here. It can really be anything you want to work on. For example I might play an exercise concentrating on pressing each note as lightly as possible but still making a clean note, or concentrating on fretting as close to the fret as possible, etc. Each time I play one I try to concentrate on one aspect of playing. I always play it in Score Attack as well because it will show you your timing on screen. Whatever it is you want to work on use the Exercise DLC to do it. For example a hammer on pull off exercise can also be played picked, down picked, alternate picked, with fingers, hybrid picking, economy picking, etc. I don't just stick to playing each exercise as the name implies I practice every technique I want to work on on every exercise. The other thing I do is I use the Exercise DLC to warm up and practice the technical side of playing. This could include pausing it to look at the notes if needed.Ħ) As you learn the tough sections start upping the speed and eventually progress to playing the whole song at a speed you can manage.
